Followers of Love
Ephesians 5:1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children.
Hebrews 6:12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
The word "follow" in the greek means; act, mimic, replicate, to be an imitator to emulate what you see someone else doing.
Because Paul uses this word "followers," he is telling us to model our lives after God. Just as a professional actor is committed to capturing the emotions, looks, voice, character and even the appearance of the person he is portraying, we are to put our whole heart and soul into imitating God in every sphere of our lives. This means we must make a decision to love and act like God!
Acting and imitation is foundational to the Christian life. It is for this very reason you are instructed to "....put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh.." (Romans 13:14.) When you wake up in the morning, you may not feel like smiling, talking or saying anything nice to anyone. But because you want to please the Lord, what do you do? You choose to be nice, to smile, to speak kindly; in other words, you choose to put on the Lord Jesus Christ....Putting on Christ is a daily mindset-a daily, hour-by-hour determination to choose to resemble Christ and His Love.
My prayer today is that we would find that balance between "acting like Christ" and "truly loving like Christ." Let people see Jesus through our actions but never let our actions be just an ACT.
