Love Not The World
1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love is not in him. 16 For everything that is in the world does not come from the Father. The desires of our flesh and the things our eyes see and want and the pride of this life come from the world. 17 The world and all its desires will pass away. But the man who obeys God and does what He wants done will live forever.
Do not love the world or the things that belong to the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the father is not in him. (vs15)
There's a quote that says "Saints.....die to the world only to rise to a more intense life." I'm convinced it's true. The disciple John may be the perfect example of this. I believe God had something so divinely unique to entrust to John, the beloved apostle, that He had to slay the call of the world in him. Mind you, not the call TO the world but the call OF the world.
Our callings are not so different. We will never be of great use to God if we don not allow Him to crucify us to ourselves and the call of the world.
Our consolations, however, are exceedingly great! We trade the pitifully small and potentially disastrous for the wildest ride mortal creatures could ever know. We don't just die to self to accept nothingness. We lay down our lives and the call of the world to receive something far more intense. The call of God! The time spent awaiting further enlightenment and the fuller harvest are meant to bulge with relationship with God. As our love of this world decreases, we will begin to see our love of God increase.
